Homework Mon. 10/3

Todays Homework is pg. 49-50 #3,5,6.

Vocabulary:

Percentile = A percentile is a value on a scale of one hundred that indicates the percent of a distribution that is equal to or below it.

Quartile = A quartile is any of the three values which divide the sorted data set into four equal parts, so that each part represents 1/4th of the whole data set

5-Number Summary
  • Minimum = lowest data value
  • Quartile 1, (Q1) = (25th Percentile) = lower quartile = cuts off lowest 25% of data
  • Median, (50th Percentile) = middle value
  • Quartile 3, (Q3) = (75th Percentile) = upper quartile = cuts off highest 25% of data, or lowest 75%
  • Maximum = highest data value
the Interquartile Range (IQR) is the difference between the third and first quartiles

A percentile greater than 75 is considered above normal
A percentile between 25 and 75 is considered normal
A percentile less than 25 is considered below normal

the Range is the difference of the maximum and the minimum
