In Class 5/26

Today we worked on Constructions using a compass and straight-edge. To meet the standard, you must:

1. Given a Line, construct a perpendicular bisector
2. Given a point on a Line, construct a perpendicular bisector throught the point
3. Given a point not on the line, construct a perpendicular bisector through the point
4. Divide a Line into a number (n) of equal segments
5. Given a circle and an exterior point, construct a line tangent to the circle
6. Construct the center point of a given circle with no given center point
7. Bisect an angle
8. Given a Line and a point not on the line, construct another line through the point parallel to the given Line

In a given circle:

9. Inscribe an equilateral triangle
10. Inscribe a regular hexagon
11. Inscribe a regular pentagon
12. Inscribe a square

Necessary Vocabulary: perpendicular, parallel, bisector, chord, tangent, inscribed

Today we worked on msad56.agilemind.com On the geometry tab, topic #28, 2-D and 3-D objects should be read, and the multiple choice questions should be answered. In addition, check out #12, Constructions for more information about what we will be doing in class on Friday.

Homework 5/22

Todays homework is pg. 395-396, #1, 2, and 4a. We examined the relationship between the diagonals of a regular polygon, lines of symmetry, and how to calculate the size of the interior angles in any polygon. We used polygons to understand tessellations that were regular or semi-regular. In class, we used nets (two-dimensional pattern which can be folded to form a three-dimensional shape) to understand three dimensional space-shapes. We created cubes (6 square faces), tetrahedron (4 triangular faces), octahedron (8 triangular faces), icosahedron (20 triangular faces), and dodecahedron (12 pentagonal faces) shapes.

Using Tables & Graphs to interpret expressions, equations & inequalities;
Formulate and solve equations and inequalities

On Tuesday, we will be doing the 9th grade ACA assessment to see what you can do. There is no homework tonight.

Homework 5/10

Today we worked on msad56.agilemind.com and did the Geometry topics on sections #3, Transformations; #16, Properties & Attributes of Polygons; and #17, Quadrilaterals.

Be able to describe and sketch the Quadrilaterals we studied: Kites, parallelograms, rhombus, rectangles, square, and trapezoid. Be able to used the descriptions we generated to classify space-shapes.

Homework 5/8

Todays homework is pg. 384, #e through j, pg. 385, #3, and pg. 387-388, #6 c through h.
Some vocabulary words to know when describing these plane-shapes include: open vs. closed; intersecting line segments; curved vs. not curved; number of sides; types of angles such as acute (less than 90 degrees), obtuse (greater than 90 degrees), greater than 180 degrees; concave vs. convex; and regular polygons.

Know the differences between line or reflection symmetry and turn or rotational symmetry.

Know the types of quadrilateral (4-sided shapes) such as: parallelgrams; rhombus; rectangles; squares. trapezoids; kites; and irregular quadrilaterals. See drawings and descriptions here

Test 5/4

Test today over perimeter, area, volume, and surface area of geometric plane-shapes and space-shapes. Use your formula sheet to help you find the missing information.

Today we prepared for the test on Thursday over Perimeter, Area, Volume, and Surface Area by completing pg. 373-376, #2-9, and the handout over comparing perimeter, area, and volume changes, along with Pythagoras Theorem.
