Wed 11/26 Thanksgiving Break starts

No other classes this week due to the Thanksgiving Vacation week. It will be a blue day on the day we return.

In Class Tues 11/25

We began class doing another recursive formula problem, p. 116, the whale population data.
Todays homework is pg. 122-123, #1,2,3, and 4. We will be working on #5, and 6, which will add to the first four questions (#1-4) done in class the next time wee meet. No graphs, just tables, equations and answer questions. We will produce graphs using the graphing calculators next class, to finish the Palace Theater question. In class we used the calculator to do iterative or recursive changes (each term is generated by repeating math operations), we wrote equations in Next=Now form, and we summarized patterns relating variables using rules (i.e. equations, relating y variables to x variables such as: y = 1250 - 120x ).

Homework Fri 11/21

Todays homework is pg. 111-112, # 1,2,3,4, and 5. In class we focused on patterns of change in variables and explored repeating patterns. We investigated population growth over time in Brazil and the U.S by using iteration (executing the same instructions repeatedly) on the calculator. Next class we will be able to write equations in NEXT=NOW form.

Today we worked on completing pg. 105, #1 using the calculator to produce boxplots and scatterplots to answer the questions and look for patterns and trends. Using a calculator, we used height and weight data to produce a scatterplot, then did a linear regression [Stat]- [Calc]- [LinReg(a+bx)] to produce a best fit line in the form of y = a + bx. After graphic the scatterplot with the line, we created a table [2nd]-[Table] to examine the data and make predictions using the equation as a model. To rapidly move around a table, on your calculator, use [2nd]-[TblSet] to set up the starting x-value [TblStart= ] in the table and [change Tbl= ] to change the x-value increment amount.

Homework Thurs 11/13

Todays homework is pg. 102-104, #1, 2, and 3 and pg. 106, #3. For next class, pg. 105, #1.
In class we worked with variables and examined the relationship between two variables as we looked for patterns. Be able to describe patterns such as "As price increase, the number of customers decreases". Be able to graph the relationship on a x-y coordinate graph.
Using the data collected from the bungee apparatus, we were able to produce a graph and a best fit line drawn by hand through the graphed data points. From this line we were able to find the equation using y=[y-intercept] + [slope] * x form. We will be using in class the form y = a + bx for this unit.

After finishing the Unit 1 assessment, today we used a model of a bungee apparatus to begin our examination of Unit 2, Patterns of Change. Using pg. 99-100, #1-4, we collected data that suggested a pattern relating to variables we modeled. We made a table and graphs of the data to look for patterns. We defined and found y-intercepts and slopes of lines. This investigation will continue on Tuesday. Using your graphs try to find your y-intercept and slope of the line from your own data.

Today, in White 1, we worked on the Concept Map and pg. 94, #2 which must be finished Thursday. Prepare for the assessment on Unit 1 and Lesson 4, Relationships and Trends for Thursday. For White 4, work on pg. 82, #3; pg. 85, #1; pg. 87, #4; pg. 88, #5; and pg. 89, #1. We will work on the Concept Map and pg. 94, #2 on Thursday or today if you finish early. Prepare for the assessment on Unit 1 and Lesson 4, Relationships and Trends for Monday 11/10.
