In Class & Homework Fri 10/30

Today we worked on completing pg. 105, #1a,b, and c using the calculator to produce boxplots and scatterplots to answer the questions and look for patterns and trends. Be able to describe associations (relationships) between two variables using written sentences.

We also used the recursion feature to quickly find answers to pg. 111-112, #1-4. For the population calculations we could write starting at 170,000,000, Next = Now * 0.015 + Now to quickly find the next few years populations. This is the start of using the Next = Now equation form which will eventually transition into being able to describe patterns by writing equations in Y = X form.

We will correct pg. 102-104, #1,2,3 on Tuesday.

In class and homework Wed 10/28

In class we worked with variables and examined the relationship between two variables as we looked for patterns. Be able to describe patterns such as "As price increase, the number of customers decreases". Be able to graph the relationship on a x-y coordinate graph.
Using the data collected from the bungee apparatus, we were able to produce a graph and a best fit line drawn by hand through the graphed data points. From this line we were able to find the equation using y=[y-intercept] + [slope] * x form. We will be using in class the form y = a + bx for this unit.

Homework Mon 10/26

Today we used a model of a bungee apparatus to begin our examination of Unit 2, Patterns of Change. Using pg. 99-100, #1-4, we collected data that suggested a pattern relating to variables we modeled. We made a table and graphs of the data to look for patterns. We will use this information next class to define and find y-intercepts and slopes of lines. This investigation will continue on Wednesday where, using your graphs, we'll try to find your y-intercept and slope of the line from your own data.
Homework today is pg. 102-104, #1, 2, and 3 due on Friday

In Class Tues 10/20

Today we looked at the effects of transforming data by adding/subtracting or multiplying/dividing data by some constant amount to see how it affected the mean and standard deviation using the handouts provided. We also looked at the effects on pulse rate of rest or exercise and graphed the data to compare.

For class today we started reviewing Unit 1 by working in class and for homework on pg. 82, #3; pg. 85, #1; pg. 87, #4; pg. 88, #5; and pg. 89, #1; (with pg. 92, #1 extra credit).

Today we finished the Bog Walk infographic with all stations drawn to scale with peat depth and pH levels for each station labeled. In class and omework for today is completion of pg. 75-77, #1, 2 and 3.

Today during the 20 minute classes due to the early release day for Parent/Teacher conferences we began creating the Bog Walk infographic which we will complete next class, after Columbus Day

Homework Tues 10/6

Todays homework is pg. 75-77, #1 and 2 and we'll complete #3 on the short day on Thursday. We did the work to prepare for the Bog Walk graph and calculated the height of trees.
In class we created scatterplots on an x-y axis using the calculator, and used the ordered pairs (x,y) to look for associations or relationships between the two coordinates and for patterns or trends. By creating a y = x line on the same graph, we were able to see points where x and y coordinates had the same values (y = x), where x was less than y (x < y) and where x was greater than y (x > y).
