No School Today due to the Snow Day. Have a good vacation. It is a White Day when you return.

Friday, December 19, 2008

In class Fri 12/19

Today we worked on wrapping up the solving linear equations problem handouts in order to be ready for the review on the Tuesday after vacation, with the assessment on Thursday. Be sure to complete all four handouts, (A-28 & A-13), (A-35 & A-40), (A-41 & A-46), and (A-47 and A-48). Afterwards, we did a short holiday puzzle.

Snow Day Fri 12/12

No School today due to the Snow Day. Monday is a Blue day.

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Homework Thurs 12/11

Today we continued work on solving linear equations using handout A-35 and A-40 with handout A-41 and A-46.

Homework Wed 12/10

Today we began a section on simplifying expressions and solving linear equations. This will appear in the textbook in Unit 3, but is necessary to know in the current form now. In class today we worked on simplifying expressions on the Handout pg. A-28 and A-13. Be sure to only add or subtract "like terms" (similar terms), those having the same variable to the same exponent.

Because of the impending snow, you also received handouts A-35 and A-40 along with A-41 and A-46. On Tues 12/16 we will continue by solving linear equations. Including today, you will receive five handouts to complete over the next four classes, with an assessment to follow. By the time we take the assessment, be sure to know how:

To solve linear equations:

1. Simplify on each side of the equal sign.

2. Combine Like Terms (like terms are those that contain the same variable or group of variables raised to the same exponent)

3. "Undo" any addition or subtraction operations to the variable

4. "Undo" any multiplication or division operations to the variable

In Class/Homework Mon 12/8

Today we did the assessment for Unit 2, Lessons 1,2,and 3. Afterwards, we began a section on simplifying expressions and solving linear equations. This will appear in the textbook in Unit 3, but is necessary to know in the current form now. In class today we worked on simplifying expressions on the Handout pg. A-12 and A-13. Be sure to only add or subtract "like terms" (similar terms), those having the same variable to the same exponent.

On Wed 12/10 we will continue by solving linear equations. Including today, you will receive several handouts to complete over the next five classes, with an assessment to follow.

Homework Thurs 12/4

In class we worked with writing equations, creating and using tables and graphs to answer questions on pg. 126-128, # 1, 2, 3, and 4. Homework is pg. 132-134, #1, 2, and 4 (skip 4e).
For a optional challenge, instead try pg. 132, #1, pg. 137 #4 (all) and pg. 139, #1, 2, and 4.
You should then prepare for the assessment on Monday over Lessons 1, 2, and 3. Be able to describe a pattern from a table (As x changes _____, y changes _____). Be able to read or plot on an x-y axis graph or scatterplot. Identify rates of change from a table or graph. Write equations in NEXT=NOW format or y = a + bx format. Find the % of a number.
