Today for White 1, we worked on the Concept Map and pg. 94, #2. Prepare for the assessment on Unit 1 and Lesson 4, Relationships and Trends for Thursday. For White 4, due to the emergency, school was dismissed early.

Today we worked on the Concept Map and pg. 94, #2. Prepare for the assessment on Unit 1 and Lesson 4, Relationships and Trends for the last part of class Monday and on the half day Wednesday.

Homework Wed 10/29

For White 1 class, continue working on your concept maps using paper or http://www.bubbl.us and also begin pg. 94, #2, with a complete 1/2 to 1 page justification and graphical displays.

For White 4 class, Take the Unit 1, Lesson 3 assessment, then homework is pg. 75-77, #1, 2 and 3.

In class we created scatterplots on an x-y axis using the calculator, and used the ordered pairs (x,y) to look for associations or relationships between the two coordinates and for patterns or trends. By creating a y = x line on the same graph, we were able to see points where x and y coordinates had the same values (y = x), where x was less than y (x < y) and where x was greater than y (x > y).

In class/homework Monday 10/27

For White 1 class, we began the work, due next Friday, on:
pg. 82, #3; pg. 85, #1; pg. 87, #4; pg. 88, #5; and pg. 89, #1; with pg. 92, #1 extra credit. We will spend time in class on Wednesday working on these as well as Concept Mapping of Unit 1.

minimum, lower quartile or quartile 1 (Q1), median, upper quartile or quartile 3 (Q3), and maximum.
Percentiles and quartiles.
Create a box and whisker plot and label its features.
White 4 will take their assessment on Monday Oct 27.

Homework Wed 10/22

Today we analyzed the topics from Unit 1, Patterns in Data, and began to examine Concept Mapping. For Homework, due on day for Unit 1 Assessment, create a concept map of your design using the multi-page handout you received of Unit 1 topics.

You can use this concept map tool on your test, so including lots of accurate detail, definitions, and examples will really help you out.

Homework Thurs 10/16

Todays in-class work is pg. 75-77, #1, 2 and 3.
In class we created scatterplots on an x-y axis using the calculator, and used the ordered pairs (x,y) to look for associations or relationships between the two coordinates and for patterns or trends. By creating a y = x line on the same graph, we were able to see points where x and y coordinates had the same values (y = x), where x was less than y (x < y) and where x was greater than y (x > y).



For those who finished, we began the work, due next Wednesday, on:
pg. 82, #3; pg. 85, #1; pg. 87, #4; pg. 88, #5; and pg. 89, #1; with pg. 92, #1 extra credit. We will spend time in class on Monday working on these as well.

Today we finished the lesson on measures of variability. In class we did the pg. 65, OYO question, finding means and mean absolute deviations for the data, then comparing sets of data. We looked at using concept maps for an organizational/conceptual tool for the unit and will be creating them using the handout by the end of Unit 1.

For homework, do pg. 70, question #4, (bonus on pg. 72, Extending #1 (bottom of page)).

We transformed a data set, Jenny's clock times from pg. 65, OYO, by adding 12 and multiplying by 2 to see how the mean and mean absolute deviations changed. Prepare for the next assessment on measures of variability on Tuesday. Understand:

Be able to find the Mean Absolute Deviation (M.A.D.) , the average distance or amount a set of data is from its mean. Useful when comparing variation or spread of different sets of data from their own means.
To calculate the MAD:
1) Find the mean of the data set
2) Find each difference of the data from the mean (subtract each number and the mean. Some will be negative and some positive)
3) Find the absolute value of each of the differences (make each value a positive)
4) Find the mean of the absolute value differences (average the all differences)
