Today we examined the relationship between surface area and volume using the problem handout of what is the minimum amount of surface area to surround a given volume. Afterwards, we began Fridays review for the chapter (if no laptop) or worked on the tangram problem for completing the problems.

In class and HW Tues 3/19

Today we worked on drawing isometric (3-dimensional) views on isometric dot paper and flat (2-dimensional) views using Front, Top, and either Right or Left faces on square dot paper. We began with simple shapes, and moved to more complicated shapes all based on combinations of 1x1x1 cubes. Creating the actual figure using the plastic cube helps you visualize what you will be drawing. We finished with a packet to draw, one from each section. In class and HW Mon 3/18

Today we worked on drawing isometric (3-dimensional) views on isometric dot paper and flat (2-dimensional) views using Front, Top, and either Right or Left faces on square dot paper. We began with simple shapes, and moved to more complicated shapes all based on combinations of 1x1x1 cubes. In class and HW Mon 3/11

Today in class we began the introduction to solid geometry by investigating various Polyheda (Polyhedron singular) and their characteristics. After discussing Platonic Solids (tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, and icosahedron) and the differences between prisms and pyramids, we created shells from folding nets of Platonic solids, then created skeletons of prisms and pyramids. We finished by noting the features of polyhedra using the supplied handout titled "Euler's Formula".

Today we worked on completing the 3rd part of the plain geometry packets which involved solving problems written as word sentences. It may help many to draw a picture of the shape, label the parts that are known, and use it with the appropriate formulas to solve the problem.
